Ramgati Meghna Riverfront & Alexander Beach

Ramgati Meghna Riverfront (popularly known as Alexander Beach or Meghna Beach) is the most awe-inspiring natural waterfront destination in Lakshmipur district, situated at Alexander in Ramgati upazila along the lower reaches of the mighty Meghna River estuary. Here, the river expands to a breathtaking width of over 15 kilometres, creating a water vista so colossal that standing on the shore feels exactly like standing before an open ocean.

The shoreline features an extensive reinforced stone embankment (Beribadh) and paved walking promenade where powerful rolling tidal waves crash against the rocky revetments with an exhilarating sea-like roar. Fresh, invigorating maritime breezes blow continuously across the water, carrying the salty fragrance of the nearby Bay of Bengal.

From the bustling fishing ghats, hundreds of colorful wooden trawlers and traditional sailboats depart daily into the deep estuary to catch world-famous Meghna Hilsa, giant river prawns, and pomfrets. Visitors can hire motorized boats for scenic cruises to offshore char islands where green mangroves and grazing cattle create idyllic pastoral scenery.

The town of Alexander was named during the British colonial period after a prominent British revenue administrator who oversaw coastal embankment construction.

The modern reinforced embankment and tourism promenade were constructed by the Water Development Board to protect the township from river erosion while creating a premier leisure waterfront.
