Musapur Regulator & Coastal Mangrove Belt

Musapur Regulator (Musapur Closer & Coastal Beach) is the premier coastal and eco-tourism destination in Noakhali district, located in Musapur union of Companiganj upazila along the estuary where the Choto Feni River empties into the Bay of Bengal. Centred around an impressive 28-vent automated water regulator dam, the site forms a captivating intersection of massive engineering, expansive riverwaters, and coastal wilderness.

The destination is famous for its vast coastal mangrove forest belt (locally called Musapur Jhobon or Mini-Sundarbans), planted along the intertidal mudflats and coastal dykes. Walking through the shaded mangrove trails lined with Keora, Bain, and Golpata palms offers visitors a peaceful encounter with coastal birds, mudskippers, and thousands of red fiddler crabs scuttling across the sandbars.

On the seaward side of the regulator lies an expansive sandy beach and estuary shore where gentle tidal waves roll in from the Bay of Bengal. Visitors can hire local motorized wooden boats for exciting river cruises across the estuary to isolated sandbars (chars) and mangrove islands.

In the evening, the broad coastal horizon delivers unforgettable sunsets as the sky turns brilliant orange and purple over the merging waters, while waterside stalls serve freshly caught coastal fish, prawns, and hot local snacks.

Constructed by the Bangladesh Water Development Board to close the mouth of the Choto Feni River, the regulator was engineered to prevent saline water intrusion and protect thousands of acres of agricultural land from tidal storm surges.

The Forest Department subsequently undertook extensive coastal afforestation, creating a thick mangrove green belt that acts as a vital natural buffer against tropical cyclones.

In recent years, the picturesque location transformed into a favourite holiday spot for travelers across the greater Noakhali and Chattogram regions.

November to February: Cool winter weather; ideal for walking through the mangrove forest, boating, and beach relaxation.

July to October: Post-monsoon; high water levels and lush green mangrove canopies.

March to May: Warm dry months with breezy coastal afternoons and spectacular sunsets.
