Chimbuk Hill

Standing proudly at an altitude of around 2,500 feet, Chimbuk Hill is the third highest peak in Bangladesh that is easily accessible by road. Located about 26 kilometers from Bandarban town on the scenic Thanchi road, it has long been affectionately dubbed the 'Darjeeling of Bengal' for its cool climate and sweeping, dramatic vistas.

The journey to Chimbuk is almost as spectacular as the destination itself. The steep, zigzagging road cuts through lush forests and high ridges, offering heart-stopping views at every turn. From the peak, visitors can gaze out over an endless expanse of rolling green hills, deep valleys, and remote indigenous settlements dotting the landscape.

Chimbuk is not just a geographical landmark; it is also culturally significant. The surrounding areas are primarily inhabited by the Mro indigenous community. Visiting the peak often includes the opportunity to walk through nearby Mro villages, allowing tourists to respectfully observe their traditional stilt houses, vibrant culture, and unique agricultural practices.

Chimbuk was one of the earliest high-altitude tourist spots developed in the Chittagong Hill Tracts, long before the more distant Nilgiri was popularized.

The area is the traditional homeland of the Mro (or Mru) people, one of the oldest indigenous groups in the hill tracts, who have farmed these steep slopes for centuries.

Winter (November to February): The weather is chilly, and the skies are clear, offering the best long-distance visibility.

Post-Monsoon (October to November): The hills are lush green and the waterfalls along the road are active.

Monsoon (June to September): Extremely scenic with heavy clouds, but the steep road can become dangerous due to landslides.
