The waterfall drops from a height of over 140 feet, making it one of the tallest accessible waterfalls in the region.

What makes Shuvolong truly special is the journey to get there. Because it is inaccessible by road, visitors must take a boat cruise across the vast expanse of Kaptai Lake from Rangamati town. The boat ride takes you through a dramatic, narrow gorge flanked by towering, densely forested rock walls, creating a cinematic, fjord-like experience.

At the base of the waterfall, a small market run by local indigenous people offers souvenirs and fresh fruits. While the waterfall is the main attraction, the combination of the boat cruise, the towering gorges, and the surrounding pristine nature makes a trip to Shuvolong an unforgettable adventure.

History & Culture

The waterfall and the surrounding gorges were formed naturally, but they became accessible by boat only after the Kaptai Dam was built in 1962, which flooded the valleys and created the lake.

The local area is predominantly inhabited by the Chakma and other indigenous communities, who operate the small floating markets and tea stalls near the waterfall.

How to get to Shuvolong Waterfall

By Boat

The only way to reach Shuvolong is by renting a tourist boat from Rangamati town (usually from the Parjatan Hanging Bridge area). The boat ride takes about 1.5 to 2 hours each way.

Best time to visit Shuvolong Waterfall

Monsoon (June to September): The waterfall is at its most ferocious and spectacular, fueled by heavy rains.

Post-Monsoon (October to November): The water flow is still strong, and the weather is much clearer for the boat ride.

Winter (December to March): The waterfall dries up almost entirely, reducing to a mere trickle or bare rock, though the lake cruise remains beautiful.

Visitors stay in hotels or resorts in Rangamati town. There are no accommodations at the waterfall.
