Bangladesh National Museum

Prominently located in the Shahbagh area of central Dhaka, the Bangladesh National Museum is the largest and most comprehensive museum in the country. The museum is divided into several main departments. The ground and first floors are dedicated to the natural history of Bangladesh, featuring impressive dioramas of the Sundarbans and extensive geological and botanical exhibits. The upper floors house a staggering collection of archaeological artifacts from ancient sites like Paharpur and Mahasthangarh, including exquisite terracotta plaques, ancient coins, and Buddhist sculptures.

The museum's origins date back to the Dhaka Museum, established in 1913 within a room at the Dhaka Medical College. It was formally inaugurated as the National Museum at its current, much larger location in 1983.
