Overview
Satchari National Park, located in the Habiganj district, is one of the most accessible and best-preserved tropical mixed evergreen forests in Bangladesh. Spanning over 243 hectares, the park gets its name—'Satchari', meaning 'Seven Streams'—from the seven small streams that flow through the dense jungle.
The park is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts and birdwatchers. It boasts a remarkably high density of primate species, including the endangered Western Hoolock Gibbon, Phayre's leaf monkey, and Capped langur. Visitors walking quietly along the forest trails are often rewarded with the sight of these monkeys swinging through the high canopy, accompanied by the calls of over 150 species of birds.
Satchari is well-equipped for eco-tourism. It features several well-marked trekking trails of varying lengths, a high canopy observation tower for birdwatching, and a unique treetop walkway. History & Culture
The forest was previously known as the Raghunandan Hill Reserve. It was officially declared a National Park by the government in 2005 to protect its rich biodiversity and the natural habitat of endangered primates.
For generations, the indigenous Tripura people have lived in the forest. Today, a village of about 24 Tripura families remains inside the park boundary. They are actively involved in the co-management of the park, working as forest guards and eco-guides.

How to get to Satchari National Park
Take a bus from Dhaka towards Srimangal or Sylhet and get off at the Madhabpur bus stand in Habiganj. From there, hire a CNG auto-rickshaw to the park entrance.
