Murarband Dargah Sharif (Dargah of Sipahsalar Hazrat Syed Nasiruddin) is one of the most sacred and historically significant Sufi pilgrimage complexes in Sylhet division, situated in Murarband village of Chunarughat upazila in Habiganj district, roughly 20 kilometres south of Habiganj town. The shrine is revered as the resting place of Hazrat Syed Nasiruddin, the supreme military commander (Sipahsalar) of Hazrat Shah Jalal's historical 1303 CE expedition.
Hazrat Syed Nasiruddin was a revered scholar, saint, and general from Baghdad who led the vanguard forces that liberated the ancient Kingdom of Taraf (modern-day Habiganj). Together with his 120 saintly commanders and companions (Darvesh), he established a righteous, peaceful administration and spiritual hub in Taraf.
The shrine complex is celebrated for holding the sacred tombs of Hazrat Syed Nasiruddin and all 120 of his companions, making Murarband a unique spiritual necropolis. The grounds encompass serene marble-paved tomb enclosures, ancient banyan and neem trees, a grand multi-domed Jame Mosque, and the historic Murarband Dighi.
During the annual 3-day Urs Mubarak in January/February, hundreds of thousands of devotees from across Bangladesh gather here to participate in spiritual zikr, prayer vigils, and traditional community Langar feeding.
History & Culture
In 1303 CE, Sipahsalar Syed Nasiruddin was commissioned by Hazrat Shah Jalal to lead the expedition against the oppressive ruler of Taraf, establishing Islamic justice and spiritual learning.
Following his victory, he founded the ruling dynasty of Syed saints of Taraf, whose descendants include prominent scholars, poets, and statesmen of Bengal.
The shrine has been continuously maintained for over seven centuries, preserving its historic marble tombs, sacred banyan groves, and charitable community traditions.
